Trasmission from the Pacific #5

In combat, you will be able to use support units and units with certain specializations, under your command.

Infantry/Marines units have specializations. Specializations aid in combat, but they have consequences that impact the actions of the unit possessing that specialization.

Specializations are indicated by small icons on the infantry or marines unit token.

FLAMETHROWER

A weapon that shoots a stream of ignited flames at the enemy.

In the Pacific theater, the U.S. troops used flamethrowers to clear stubborn Japanese resistance from prepared defenses, caves, and trenches. Starting in New Guinea, through the closing stages of Guadalcanal and during the approach to and reconquest of the Philippines, and then throughout the Okinawa campaign.

In the game, flamethrowers are useful against enemies hidden in fortifications, such as bunkers, trenches, and buildings.

A unit with the flamethrower specialization moves slower than regular infantry because it must carry heavy flamethrowers. The weight of a fully loaded M2 blaster was just over 30 kg. The unit is also more vulnerable to fire and tires more quickly. This simulates the blaster's vulnerability to exploding at the slightest enemy shell impact.

To maximize the flamethorwer effectiveness against a fortification, move the unit as close to it as possible.

ANTI-TANK

The anti-tank specialization increases the unit's effectiveness against enemy tanks and vehicles.

The anti-tank specialization does not necessarily mean equipping the unit with specific anti-tank guns.

It simulates a general anti-tank equipment loadout and imposes consequences on the unit's other characteristics.

A unit with the anti-tank specialization is better at fighting tanks than regular infantry or Marines. This does not mean that this fight is automatically won. It is capable of hitting the enemy at longer ranges than regular infantry.

However, it moves slower due to its anti-tank loadout. For the same reason, it also tires more quickly than infantry.

RECON UNITS

The Recon specialty is reconnaissance. While every unit and soldier must conduct reconnaissance on the battlefield, this specialty designates a unit specifically trained for this purpose.

Such a unit moves faster than regular infantry. Recon units fatigue slower than regular infantry. This simulates the specialized training of recon units.

As reconnaissance specialists, they can spot the enemy from a greater distance than infantry and remain more difficult for them to detect.

However, in close combat, they are more vulnerable to enemy fire and casualties.

BOMBERS

Bombers are a powerful support weapon. The game simulates dive bombers, whose tactics involve attacking their targets by performing fast dives in order to ensure greater accuracy for the aerial bomb it drops.

You can initiate a bombing run on demand from the battlefield. Bombers perform one raid per call. After completing the attack, the bombers return to the aircraft carrier. In the game, bombers operate in pairs.

When planning a dive bombing mission, you can specify the direction from which the attack will originate. This is especially important when you need to avoid anti-aircraft guns deployed in the field.

Bombers are vulnerable to anti-aircraft fire. Before planning the attack direction, ensure there are no guns in the path.

Due to dive bomber tactics, bombers are also effective against enemies stationed in buildings and other fixed structures.

Aircraft, including bombers, do not fly from dusk to dawn.

RECON/SCOUTING PLANES

Reconnaissance aircraft can circle over a designated area for a period of time until recalled or until fuel levels require them to return to the aircraft carrier.

Like bombers, recon planes do not fly from dusk to dawn.

After spotting enemy units, aircraft report their position.

Enemy units detected by reconnaissance aircraft are visible to ground units from a distance, and are vulnerable to anti-aircraft fire.

It should be assumed that aircraft will not detect all enemy units (especially in forests, fortifications, and other concealed areas).
