Stormbinders - FAQs

socials
Published on May 27, 2026

Since the game was announced, we’ve had many great interactions with you here on Steam, on social media, and on our Discord server. First of all, thank you for sharing your thoughts, feedback, questions, and ideas so far—this genuinely helps us shape the game and better understand what matters most to the community.

Today, we want to answer some of the most common questions we’ve spotted across these channels.

Frequently Asked Questions

Army & Combat

  • How many unit stacks can a hero carry?
A hero can carry up to 9 unit stacks (for comparison, classic HoMM uses 7). This gives players more flexibility while still keeping battles readable and manageable.

  • Can you choose which units to deploy before battle?
No, that’s not the plan. When you enter a battle, your entire army is at stake. Otherwise, there would be no real risk in holding units back.

  • What happens when you lose a battle?
Defeat has real consequences. Losing a battle can mean losing your entire army and your hero.

Death means death... although fallen heroes may return one way or another.

Factions & Units

  • Will factions include more fantasy units?
Yes. In the long term, we also plan to introduce additional neutral units as part of post-launch support.

World

  • Will there be underground maps?
Yes, we’ve built a flexible underground system that allows us to create multiple nested layers within a single map.
From a development perspective, these function as separate maps that can be stacked and connected as needed, giving us a lot of design freedom. The closest comparison would be the HoMM III underground system, just without the usual limitations. The only real limiter is your RAM.

  • Is a random map generator planned?
A random map generator is planned; however, we’re still finalizing the details. We’ll share more information as soon as everything is defined.

Multiplayer

  • Will Stormbinders have multiplayer?
This is not planned for the first release, but Hot Seat will be available.

Development & Release

  • Will there be an open/closed beta in the future?
A beta is planned for the future, but we’re not ready to share timing details yet. We’ll have more to announce when external testing gets closer.

  • When is the game expected to be released?
Development takes time, and key milestones are still going through internal testing, so we’re not ready to share a date yet.

  • What does the roadmap look like after release?
We haven’t locked in a plan yet as the focus is currently on finalizing the game for its first release. However, our plan is to support it in multiple ways, including small updates focused on improvements and system expansions, major updates introducing new or expanded mechanics and DLC focused primarily on new content, such as factions and units.

Closing notes

Over the coming months, we plan to continue sharing dev diaries to keep you updated on progress, answer your questions, and give you a closer look at how the game is evolving. We’ll also announce bigger news as soon as we’re ready to commit to them.

And this FAQ? Consider it a first step. If we see new recurring questions or topics sparking curiosity in the community, we’ll be happy to revisit this format and answer more of them in the future—so please keep sharing your thoughts and questions in the comment below and on our Discord server. We’ll be glad to take note of them and provide further insights as soon as we have everything defined.
