Is Battleplan for you?

socials
Published on October 02, 2026

A few weeks ago, we announced that Battleplan is ready and finally coming on October 12th. As launch approaches, we’d like to take a moment to explain exactly what Battleplan is and reveal the new features that you’ll be able to experience for yourself in just 10 days.

If you’re new to Battleplan, take a look at the video below for a quick overview of some of its key features, then read on to discover what we’ve improved and what you can expect when the game launches.

This Is Not a Grand Strategy

While Battleplan is set during World War II and requires players to think at an operational level, its focus is very different from traditional grand strategy games. Rather than managing an entire nation, economy, diplomacy, and global war effort, Battleplan puts you in command of military operations that you draw directly onto the battlefield.

Your task is to plan offensives, manage formations, coordinate combined-arms assaults, secure supply lines, and react to changing battlefield conditions. Success comes from balancing long-term planning with moment-to-moment operational decisions.

The game is divided into scenarios depicting specific battles, with each scenario generally covering a period of around two weeks.

Finding the Balance Between Strategy and Control

Battleplan is designed to sit between high-level strategy and tactical command.

You can create battle plans and assign objectives to entire formations through the newly added Zone Orders system, allowing you to direct large-scale operations efficiently. At the same time, players who want greater control can intervene directly, issuing orders to individual units and fine-tuning their battlefield actions.

This balance gives players the freedom to play at the level they prefer while maintaining the depth expected from a World War II command experience.

What Is Included at Launch?

At release, Battleplan will feature a single-player campaign consisting of 11 historical missions covering key operations from D-Day landings up to Operation Varsity, and 2 tutorial levels.

As your campaign progresses, you'll build and customize your army, recruit officers, unlock historical units, and carry the consequences of your decisions from one battle to the next.

This is only the beginning. We already have plans to continue expanding Battleplan after launch with new system updates, gameplay improvements, and additional theatres of war. Stay tuned: we'll be sharing more details about future content very soon.

What's Changed Since the Demo?

Since Steam Next Fest, Battleplan has received substantial improvements based on community feedback.

Some of the most important additions include:

  • New Zone Orders System – Assign operational areas to your forces and coordinate entire fronts with less repetitive order management.

  • Expanded Army Constructor – Greater flexibility when creating formations and customizing your forces.

  • Improved Tactical Depth – Enhanced reconnaissance, combined-arms bonuses, artillery support, air operations, and defensive fortifications.

  • Smarter AI – Both friendly and enemy units now react more intelligently, with improved frontline management, counterattacks, and breakthrough behavior.

  • Campaign Enhancements – Full mission briefings, historical officers and units to unlock, victory cutscenes, and additional progression systems.

  • Quality-of-Life Improvements – UI upgrades, better battlefield readability, Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud support, and a new Veteran difficulty level.

Together, these changes make Battleplan more intuitive to command, more rewarding to master, and significantly more polished than the demo players experienced during Steam Next Fest.
