WEGO World War II: Overlord is an operational-level, ground-centric WEGOWW2 game system. Built on the engine of Desert War/Stalingrad, this hex-based wargame recreates the Allied invasion of Western Europe. The game includes 14 historical scenarios, ranging from the landing at Omaha beach to a huge 135-turn campaign that covers the entire Normandy campaign. The game can be played by both sides using hotseat, versus the AI, or PBEM multiplayer.
WEGOWW2: In many board and computer wargames, one side will move its units and resolve combat, followed by the other side repeating the process. This game mechanic is known as IGOUGO ("I GO YOU GO"). WEGO World War II is different. WEGO by its nature is about the player's ability to plan for and manage chaos; to find solutions to perceived challenges and accomplish the mission with the tools at hand. Despite the fog of war where the position and strength of enemy units is unknown, against a thinking opponent who must problem-solve and plan under the same conditions. Every decision you make must be carefully considered. Learn to think three moves ahead to outsmart your opponent!
WEGO World War II: Overlord includes multiple interconnected campaigns and stand-alone scenarios, featuring the iconic battles across Normandy’s hedgerows, the breakout towards Brittany, and the struggle for key cities like Caen and Cherbourg. The game uses stylized maps of Normandy over which a hexagonal grid system has been superimposed. This grid regulates land unit placement, movement, and combat.
Ground units range in size from company to regiment/brigade level and are represented on the game map using counters with stylized or NATO icons to display unit types.
Air assets represent Allied and German air groups that can conduct counter-air, interdiction, air resupply, bombardment, and ground support missions. Air reconnaissance assets can collect critical information about enemy location, unit types, and strengths.
Weather is modeled and can significantly influence air operations, supply efficiency, and airborne missions.
Naval assets represent the powerful Allied naval forces that supported the landings and subsequent operations. These assets can conduct naval gunfire bombardment, provide logistical support, and facilitate amphibious landings across multiple beaches.
Airborne and glider forces play a pivotal role, allowing players to execute daring operations behind enemy lines to seize key terrain, disrupt supply lines, or block enemy reinforcements.
Ground Assets provide additional capabilities that can influence the outcome of on-map battles. Ground Assets include electronic warfare capabilities and command activities, and specialized logistic actions, while logistics Assets provide essential resources that enhance movement, combat effectiveness, or replacements priority for player-selected units or formations. Securing supply lines and managing logistical constraints is critical to sustaining momentum during the invasion.
